Kaplan, who received the honor at AVMA Convention 2017 in Indianapolis, was recognized for his outstanding contributions to and support of the One Health Initiative.

"For more than 10 years, Dr. Kaplan has been, without a doubt, one of the world’s most significant leaders in the One Health movement," said Dr. Tom Meyer, AVMA president. "His absolute commitment to the advancement of animal, human, and environmental health is evident in his tireless efforts and many years of pro bono service to this initiative. In addition, his work has been instrumental in advancing the image of the AVMA and indeed, placing the entire veterinary medical community in a positive light. I congratulate Dr. Kaplan on receiving this well-deserved award and I thank him for his leadership and profound dedication to the One Health Initiative."
