 Veterinary professionals recognized for their commitment to advancing animal welfare

​The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) is pleased to conclude its 2016 Excellence in Veterinary Medicine Awards program by honoring the following individuals for their career achievements in advancing the welfare of animals through leadership, public service, education, research and advocacy:

  • AVMA Animal Welfare Award—Dr. Jeanette O’Quin
  • AVMA Humane Award—Harold F. Dates
  • AVMA Bustad Companion Animal Veterinarian of the Year Award— Dr. Jody Sandler

O’Quin, Dates and Sandler received their respective awards during the 2017 AVMA Veterinary Leadership Conference in Chicago.

“These individuals have devoted their long careers to being tireless advocates for improving animal welfare, and embody the values inherent in the fine men and women who serve the profession,” said Dr. Tom Meyer, AVMA president. “I congratulate them on their well-deserved recognition and commend them for their years of commitment to veterinary medicine, and for working with animals and people to ensure animals' good welfare.”
