JAVMA Instructions for Authors - Anesthesia Case of the Month

The purpose of the Anesthesia Case of the Month feature is to provide readers with clinically relevant information related to specific problems in veterinary anesthesiology. The text for manuscripts submitted for this feature should be organized under the following headings: History, Question, Answer, and Discussion. The History section should provide sufficient information in regard to the specific problem addressed so that readers could reasonably determine the best solution or next logical step, given a thorough knowledge of veterinary anesthesiology. Signalment, history, physical examination findings, and laboratory test results should be provided as needed. The Question section should pose a specific question for readers to consider. The Answer section should directly answer the question posed in the preceding section and provide additional supportive information as needed, including clinical course and relevant follow-up information. The Discussion section should provide a succinct discussion of the issue or problem addressed.

Although the Anesthesia Case of the Month feature does not have a specific word or page limit, manuscripts should typically not be more than 2,500 words long, excluding references. Only the most pertinent references should be included.

Authors should follow all general guidelines for manuscript preparation and submission, including guidelines for preparation of electronic copies of figures, given in the Instructions for JAVMA Authors. For additional information, please contact Dr. Kurt Matushek by telephone (847-925-8070 or 800-248-2862, ext 6768) or e-mail (kmatushek@avma.org).
