Awards nomination reminder

The deadline for nomination submissions for the awards administered annually by the AVMA is drawing near, so don't delay.

The awards to be presented at the 139th annual convention of the AVMA, July 13–17, 2002, in Nashville, Tenn., are the AVMA Award, Meritorious Service Award, Practitioner Research Award, XIIth International Veterinary Congress Prize, Public Service Award, American Feed Industry Association Award, Innovative Veterinary Diets — Fido Award, Charles River Prize, and the Humane Award.

Nominations must be submitted to the AVMA, 1931 N. Meacham Road, Suite 100, Schaumburg, IL 60173-4360, no later than Feb. 1, 2002. Humane Award nominations must be received no later than Dec. 31, 2001. Nominations for the Charles River Prize should be sent directly to the Charles River Foundation, P.O. Box 430, Wilmington, MA 01887, no later than Jan. 14, 2002.

The Meritorious Service Award will be given for the first time at the Nashville convention. The AVMA Executive Board established the award during its spring meeting this year. The Meritorious Service Award will be given to a veterinarian who has contributed to the advancement of veterinary medicine, and brought honor and distinction to the profession. It is given to honor veterinarians who advance the profession through personal/professional activities conducted outside the areas of organized veterinary medicine and research. The Executive Board will select the recipient.The award will consist of a Tiffany crystal sculpture and $500 cash.
