Call for papers announced for informatics symposium
The Association for Veterinary Informatics has issued a call for papers for the sixth annual Richard B. Talbot Symposium on Veterinary Informatics, and AVMA Computers and Informatics Program, for July 15, 2001: "Bringing practitioners, hospitals, and staff into the 21st century with patient-centered systems." In the coming year, the AVI will focus on how computer and Internet technology, together with informatics, can increase the quality of patient care, provide educational enrichment and enjoyment for practitioners and staff, and increase the net income of the practice. As part of the call for papers, the AVI announced that VetConnect Systems Inc has joined PetsChoice Inc in sponsoring the First Annual Scholar's Award competition. The two winning students will each give a 20-minute presentation at the Talbot symposium. Each will receive a $750 award plus round-trip airfare to the 2001 AVMA Annual Convention in Boston. In addition, the winning students will receive free registration for the AVMA Annual Convention and the current AVMA standard speaker's honorarium. Students enrolled in any accredited college of veterinary medicine or in a veterinary or medical informatics program, and not graduating prior to the Class of 2001, are eligible for this award. The AVI has a new Web site that includes a section providing information on the symposium, the call for papers, and suggested topics: http://avinformatics.org.
