NCSU White Coat Ceremony

First-year veterinary students at North Carolina State University School of Veterinary Medicine participated in the school's first White Coat Ceremony in August. The White Coat Ceremony was introduced by the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine (see JAVMA, Oct 15, 1999).

What made the NCSU ceremony special was that an invited guest of each student who had been influential in their decision to become a veterinarian presented them with their white coat and badge. The invitees, who included high school teachers, veterinarians, parents, friends, and college professors, came from all across the nation for the event. AVMA vice president, Dr. Joseph H. Kinnarney and Dr. Wayne Mercer, president of the North Carolina VMA, took part in welcoming the students.
