Posted May 1, 2000

Dr. Frederick Shulak, Southfield, Mich, made an estate commitment of $300,000, plus current gifts, to establish the Frederick B. Shulak Endowed Fund in Avian Medicine at Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine.

Earnings from the endowment will be used to promote high-quality and trend-setting research, scholarships, instruction, veterinary care, student services, and public service in avian medicine.

A 1958 graduate of MSU's College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Shulak owns an animal hospital in Southfield.

After earning his veterinary degree, Dr. Shulak served two years in the US Air Force Veterinary Corps and was honorably discharged with the rank of captain in 1960. He is a charter member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians and has been active in the organization since its inception in 1980.
