The Alternative and Complementary Therapies Task Force met at AVMA headquarters Feb 12-13 to continue updating the Association's 1996 Guidelines on Alternative and Complementary Veterinary Medicine. Although progress was made, the task force was not able to complete its charge of reviewing and revising the document.
Dr. Harmon Rogers, who represents District XI on the AVMA Executive Board, chaired the meeting and directed the efforts of the nine-member task force. This was the second of two meetings (see JAVMA, Jan 15, 2000, page 156) approved by the board, which created the task force in November 1998.
Because the members of the task force believe they have made substantial progress toward the goal of completing their charge, the task force will recommend that the board allow it to hold an additional meeting. This will enable the task force to complete analysis of this area of veterinary medicine and revision of the guidelines.
