EXECUTIVE BOARD COVERAGE

AVMA, Mexican meetings continue - June 1, 2002

  Posted May 15, 2002

A series of meetings between AVMA and Mexican veterinary leaders that began last year will continue next year. The Executive Board authorized a meeting to be held in Mexico in 2003 so that leaders can resume discussions in areas of common interest, including quality veterinary education, bioterrorism, food safety, and trade.

Each delegation will fund the expenses of their own representatives.

In March 2001, AVMA and Mexican veterinary leaders met in Mexico to discuss common interests, with emphasis on veterinary college accreditation. In February 2002 they met again, in Henderson, Nev., for ongoing discussion (see report on page 1599). The AVMA delegation believes that considerable progress was made at this year's meeting in reaching a common understanding.

The 2003 meeting would include AVMA leadership and staff, a representative of the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges, and an expert to address ongoing concerns. The AVMA leaders will renew an invitation for Canadian VMA representatives to participate.
