New ECFVG examination under consideration
|Posted May 15, 2002|
Questions have arisen as to whether the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination is an appropriate tool for measuring preclinical knowledge, as it is used for step three in the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates program.
In April, the AVMA Executive Board approved funding for the ECFVG to hire a consulting group to formulate a cost and feasibility estimate on development of an examination that would replace the NAVLE.
The action empowers the ECFVG to move forward in hiring The Chauncey Group International, a subsidiary of Educational Testing Service, to do the feasibility study at a cost of $6,000.
The Chauncey Group is already working with the ECFVG to enhance two other aspects of the certification process—the Clinical Proficiency Examination and the evaluated clinical year. The group's assistance has proved invaluable.
