The Executive Board approved a recommendation expanding the Rules for AVMA Presidential Election Campaigns to include campaigns for the offices of vice president and president.

The original rules had been adopted in March 1996 and were amended a year later to create a level playing field for candidates and to contain the costs of presidential campaigns. Expanding the rules will ensure that all campaigns for AVMA office conform to the same standards.

For travel to specified AVMA meetings during the campaign season, $5,700 per vice presidential candidate has been allocated, along with an additional $1,300 per president-elect candidates.

The new rules are effective following the July 2001 AVMA convention.
