The Executive Board approved a recommendation from the Legislative Advisory Committee to revise the committee's structure, adding a second board representative to serve an initial three-year term and to make the board chairman a non-voting, ex-officio member of the committee.
As approved, the recommendation will cost $1,750 annually.
The committee's former structure included two Executive Board members, one of whom is the board chairman. One of the Executive Board members serves as chairman of the Committee. The board chairman position changes every year, and the other board representative changes every three years, sooner if the representative's term on the Executive Board expires while still serving on the committee. At least every three years, there would have been two newly assigned board members with no experience on the committee to facilitate service as committee chairman.
The proposed restructuring, with staggered three-year terms for two board representatives, will provide continuity of leadership for the committee with at least one board member with prior experience in the functioning of the committee to serve as chairman.
As an ex officio, nonvoting member, the Executive Board chairman can continue to serve on the committee as his or her schedule permits and when important matters arise.
The board also approved a recommendation that the board chairman appoint an Executive Board member to complete the one-year unexpired term on the LAC that will be vacated by Dr. Leonard Tinney, District IV, whose term on the Executive Board expires in July. The appointee will be authorized to attend the spring 2001 committee meeting to become familiar with committee functions.
