Model dog and cat ordinance expanded

The Council on Public Health and Regulatory Veterinary Medicine recommended additions to the Model Dog and Cat Control Ordinance. The Executive Board approved the recommendations. The additions were a definition of livestock guarding dogs, a requirement for individual dog and cat identification, and an exemption of livestock guarding dogs from nuisance regulations when the dogs are performing duties protecting livestock on premises owned or controlled by the owner. Earlier, the Task Force on Canine Aggression and Human-Canine Interactions had made some alterations to the original model ordinance and incorporated it into the Model Program-A Community Approach to Dog Bite Prevention. | |
