Awards: Residents' Competition: Dr. Caroline Garzotto, Tufts University, for her presentation on the "Prognostic Significance of Serum Alkaline Phosphatase Levels in Dogs with Osteosarcoma"; and Dr. Betsy Hershey, University of Wisconsin, for her presentation on the "Overexpression of p53 in Feline Vaccine Associated Sarcomas"
Business: Almost 300 registrants attended the conference. Keynote speakers were Dr. Gerald R. Rutteman, co-founder of the European Society of Veterinary Oncology; Peter J. Quesenberry, MD, director of the Cancer Center and professor of medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center; Carol L. Reinisch, BA, ScD, senior scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole; Marc Bracke, MD, lecturer and researcher at the Laboratory of Experimental Cancerology at the University of Ghent in Belgium; and Herman D. Suit, MD, chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Andres Soriano Professor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School. Their topics covered subject matter from the forefront of current research in medical, surgical, and molecular information.
