In the wake of the West Nile virus outbreak last year, countries including those in the European Union have temporarily banned or restricted US imports of horses and poultry. For current export requirements, veterinarians should call the USDA-APHIS National Center for Import and Export Staff at (301) 734-8364 or their USDA area veterinarian in charge (listed in the AVMA Directory).
