The American Veterinary Medical Foundation recently added Paul Amundsen to the team as the new executive director of the American Veterinary Medical Foundation. With more than 12 years of association management and fund-raising experience, Amundsen is charged with leading the Foundation into the next phase of financial and operational support for the veterinary profession.

Amundsen comes to the AVMA following four years as vice president of communications for the Alliance for Children and Families, a national association representing 365 nonprofit, human social service and behavioral health care providers.

During his tenure with the Alliance, Amundsen was responsible for public relations, publishing, and marketing, plus national fund raising in support of Alliance program initiatives. Prior to the Alliance, he served in a number of capacities on behalf of national associations representing medicine, dentistry, and community services.

According to Dr. R. L. Collinson, chairman of the Foundation, "We welcome Paul and look forward to his experience and enthusiasm benefiting the Foundation and AVMA members."

As the Foundation charts its strategic plan, it will direct its efforts toward initiatives that support the AVMA, veterinary practice, and veterinary education and research. With the AVMF board and staff, Amundsen's responsibilities will include resource development and long-range planning, as well as operational, financial, and administrative management.

Since its formation in 1963 by the AVMA, the AVMF has worked to advance the health and wellness of all animal species, as part of a network of veterinary health professionals and pet owners who provide compassionate care for animals nationwide.
