AVMA creates tools, resources on telehealth

Posted Feb. 14, 2018

To guide veterinarians as they navigate practice in the digital age, the AVMA has created an online Telehealth Resource Center with a suite of educational and practical tools for practitioners and their staff. Specifically, the pages serve to help AVMA members understand, evaluate, customize, and implement telehealth options in their practice.

They can learn about the following:

  • Telehealth Basics, including key definitions and frequently asked questions.
  • Telehealth and the Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship.
  • Steps to Implement Telemedicine Services in Your Practice.
  • Telemedicine Service Models.

Veterinarians also can review a case study demonstrating how one veterinary team used telehealth to increase client compliance with post-surgical and hospice care recommendations.

Most of these materials are available exclusively to AVMA members at http://jav.ma/telehealthtoolkit. The Association is working on additional materials to be released later this year, including practical materials to share with clients. Expect to find telehealth continuing education courses offered at AVMA Convention 2018 in July in Denver as well.
