The AVMA is accepting nominations through July 21 for an unexpired term representing District III on the Board of Directors. The call for nominations was issued to fill the vacancy created by the June 15 resignation of Dr. Michael Newman due to health reasons.

The unexpired term will end Aug. 2, 2019, and the successful candidate will be eligible for re-election to a full, six-year term. Board members receive a $10,000 annual stipend.

If only one qualified candidate is nominated, the nominee will be declared elected and take office during AVMA Convention 2017 in July in Indianapolis. If there is more than one qualified nominee, AVMA members in Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee will elect their representative on a secure voting website, and the winner will be seated in October.
