AAALAC International appoints Bayne as executive director

The Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International appointed Dr. Kathryn Bayne (Washington State ’87) as its new executive director, effective July 1. She succeeded Dr. Chris Newcomer, who retired after eight years as executive director.
Dr. Bayne served as global director for AAALAC International for eight years. Her history with AAALAC International began in 1994 as one of four employees staffing a Council on Accreditation of 18 members and a board of trustees representing 41 scientific and professional organizations. Until 1996 it was known as the American Association for Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care. AAALAC International has grown to a staff of 16 supporting a 63-member council and 71-member board.
Previously, Dr. Bayne worked at the National Institutes of Health leading a research program on the psychological well-being of nonhuman primates and environmental enrichment programs for primates, dogs, cats, and swine. She has been president of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine, Association of Primate Veterinarians, and District of Columbia VMA.
She is a past chair of the AVMA Animal Welfare Committee.
