American Pharoah prevailed in a wire-to-wire victory at the 2015 Belmont Stakes, making him the first American Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978 and only the 12th in history. The win also cemented Dr. Vince Baker’s place in horse racing history as a veterinarian who has treated a Triple Crown winner.


Agreements between federal regulators and pharmaceutical companies are expected to reduce antimicrobial use in agriculture by the end of this year. But a report published late last year indicates sales and distribution of antimicrobial drugs for use in livestock, by weight, rose before and after the Food and Drug Administration published its plan for reducing use.


The American Association of Equine Practitioners held its 61st Annual Convention Dec. 5-9, 2015, in Las Vegas. Attendees could choose from 135 hours of continuing education credit while volunteer leaders dealt with issues in areas such as economics, welfare, and medicine.
