The American Veterinary Dental College, AVMA, and American Animal Hospital Association state that dental cleanings should be performed under anesthesia. Nevertheless, anesthesia-free dentistry is growing across the country as many pet owners perceive a need for pet dental care but fear the risks of anesthesia—and as more general practitioners offer the service, generally via a third-party provider.
AVMA Life is the new name of the Trust that has provided life insurance, disability insurance, and other coverage for veterinarians, by veterinarians, over the course of more than half a century—and that plans to provide all these products in years to come. The former AVMA Group Health & Life Insurance Trust introduced its new name and brand during the AVMA Veterinary Leadership Conference, Jan. 7-10 in Chicago.
More than 1 million U.S. households re-home cats or dogs annually, according to a new study. Most people who re-homed cats or dogs gave the pets to a friend or family member, 37 percent, or took the pets to a shelter or rescue organization, 36 percent. Primary reasons for re-homing included a pet problem, 46 percent; a family problem, 27 percent; or a housing problem, 18 percent.
