American Humane names chief veterinary officer

The American Humane Association has appointed Dr. Marion Garcia as chief veterinary officer and director of the Animal Welfare Research Institute, effective Nov. 1.
Dr. Garcia has had careers in the military and veterinary medicine. She has been with the U.S. Army Military Police since 1987. She served six years on active duty before entering the Reserve and earning her veterinary degree from Colorado State University in 1998. She went on to work as a veterinarian on the staffs of poultry and cattle producers. Acting as a civilian, she was a veterinary adviser to the U.S. Department of Defense in the countries of Georgia and Iraq.
Concurrent with her new position at the American Humane Association, Dr. Garcia is serving with the U.S. Army Military Police as deputy commander of Joint Task Force Guantanamo in Cuba.
