Dr. Allen J. Roussel

Dr. Allen J. Roussel (LSU ’77), professor and head of the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, was awarded the 2013 Southwest Veterinary Symposium Visionary of the Year Award and an accompanying check for $1,000. The honor was created to recognize individuals who are actively engaged in veterinary practice and whose contributions have improved the standards and goals of veterinary medicine.

Dr. Roussel has served 10 years on the board of managers for the SWVS, representing the Texas VMA, including a term as president in 2011.

He is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and served as president of its Large Animal Internal Medicine specialty in 2011, and is a diplomate of the European College of Bovine Health Management. Dr. Roussel has been at Texas A&M since joining the faculty as an assistant professor in 1986.
