 ACVIM publishes resource on leptospirosis

posted May 18, 2011

The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine has published a consensus statement on the diagnosis, epidemiology, treatment, and prevention of leptospirosis in dogs.

The ACVIM Infectious Disease Study Group suggested there were several reasons for developing the statement on leptospirosis, including concerns about the risk of zoonotic transmission and concerns about vaccine safety and efficacy. The International Society for Companion Animal Infectious Diseases has endorsed the document.

The document presents details about leptospirosis in a series of questions and answers. It appears in the January/February 2011 issue of the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, and it also is available from the ACVIM website at www.acvim.org under "Consensus Statements."
