Legislation At A Glance
|posted November 18, 2010|
The AVMA is supporting passage of the Hire Now Tax Act (S. 2983)—legislation that would exempt for-profit and nonprofit employers from paying their portion of Social Security taxes in 2010 for new employees hired after Feb. 3, 2010, who had been without full-time work for at least 60 days. The bill would allow an increase in the general business tax credit for the retention of such employees for at least one year at specified wage levels. S. 2983 is currently before the Senate Finance Committee. Contact Gina Luke, AVMA Governmental Relations Division assistant director, at (800) 321-1473, Ext. 3204, for more information.
