Awards:Outstanding Registered Veterinary Technician of the Year (private practice): Jan Yaroslav, Corning. Yaroslav is the senior technician and technical supervisor at Mangrove Veterinary Hospital in Chico and is certified as a specialist in dentistry by the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians. During her career, she has become known for her technical expertise, professionalism, communication and mentoring skills, and positive attitude. Meritorious Service Award: San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium's Veterinary Street Outreach Services, San Francisco, won this award, given to those providing special attention to or promoting the human-animal bond in California. The VET SOS provides veterinary care to companion animals of homeless people and offers support and free community clinic referrals to their owners. In 2008, the mobile veterinary clinic took care of more than 750 animals, providing vaccines, heartworm and flea prevention medication, other supplies, and food and basic veterinary care

American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine

Event: 2010 ACVIM forum, June 9-12, Anaheim, Calif.
Program: Of the 2,878 registered attendees at the meeting, 2,461 were veterinarians, 271 were veterinary technicians, and 146 were veterinary students.
Awards:Robert W. Kirk Award for Professional Excellence: Dr. George E. Lees, College Station, Texas, for meritorious contributions to the veterinary profession. An ACVIM-certified specialist in small animal internal medicine, Dr. Lees is a professor of veterinary internal medicine at Texas A&M University. He has helped advance diagnostic and therapeutic options available to veterinarians, especially in the field of nephrology.�Distinguished Service Award: Dr. Debra C. Sellon, Pullman, Wash., for outstanding and dedicated service to the college in a volunteer capacity. An ACVIM-certified specialist in large animal internal medicine, Dr. Sellon is a professor of equine medicine at Washington State University. She has served as a member of the ACVIM Credentials Committee and is past president of the college's Specialty of Large Animal Internal Medicine. Resident Research Award: Drs.
