The AVMA is pursuing passage of the Veterinary Public Health Workforce and Education Act (H.R. 2999), which would increase the number of veterinarians trained in veterinary public health. Among other things, the bill proposes creating a veterinary medicine and public health division in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and establishing a federal veterinary public health fellowship program. H.R. 2999 was before the House Energy and Commerce Committee at press time.
