Guide intended to avoid flu spread among people, pigs
|posted July 18, 2010|
Workplace safety regulators are trying to protect people who work with swine and the swine themselves from influenza.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is providing guidance through a fact sheet, "Influenza in Workers and Pigs: Guidance for Commercial Swine Farmers and Pork Producers." The two-page document is available free from OSHA, and it covers a variety of topics including signs of illness in pigs, symptoms in workers, and measures that can help prevent the spread of flu viruses.
The document is available at www.osha.gov. Either click on "Publications," then on "Fact Sheets," and scroll down to "Influenza in Workers and Pigs: Guidance for Commercial Swine Farmers and Pork Producers" or go directly to the document at http://www.osha.gov/Publications/influenza-workers-pigs-factsheet.pdf.
