Dr. Richard F. Rodger (MEX '78), North Grafton, Mass., was recognized by the Massachusetts VMA with its Distinguished Service Award for his accomplishments in veterinary medicine and involvement with the association's international programs.
Ten years ago, Dr. Rodger initiated a partnership, the MVMA Mazunte Turtle Project, with the Centro Mexicano de la Tortuga in Mazunte, also known as theNational Mexican Turtle Center. The goal is to impact the population of stray dogs on the beaches of Mazunte and stop them from preying on sea turtle young and eggs.
Dr. Rodger also participates in another MVMA international program—Project Samana. Annually, he and a team of veterinary medical professionals and assistants travel to the Dominican Republic to combine small animal spay and neuter surgery with wildlife protection.
Dr. Rodger also has held the role of MVMA International Committee co-chair for many years and is a board member and president-elect of MVMA Charities.
