Kansas State University has selected Dr. Steven C. Henry (KSU '72) as the 2010 Alumni Fellow in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Henry was selected to receive this award for accomplishments in swine medicine and production with the Abilene Animal Hospital veterinary group in Abilene, Kan.

Dr. Henry and his veterinary partners provide services to pork producers in the Midwest and consultation to the pork production industry throughout the Western Hemisphere. He is also a close collaborator with researchers at K-State and abroad.

Dr. Henry has served on the Food and Drug Administration's Veterinary Medicine Advisory Committee, the AVMA Council on Biologic and Therapeutic Agents, and various committees of the National Pork Producers Council and Department of Agriculture.

Dr. Henry is a member of the National Academies of Practice, a fellow of the Morris Animal Foundation, and a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Swine Health Management.

Dr. Michael G. Strain (LSU '83) will be inducted into the Hall of Distinction by the Louisiana State University Alumni Association on April 16. Dr. Strain has been the commissioner of agriculture for Louisiana since 2008. Before then he served in the state House of Representatives from October 1999 to January 2008. Dr. Strain also served as president of the Louisiana VMA.


The International Association of Fly Fishing Veterinarians named its officers for 2010-2012 at its meeting Feb. 25-27 in Marble Canyon, Ariz. They new IAFFV officials are Drs. Donald C. Sawyer (MSU '61), Okemos, Mich., president; Douglas C. Andrews (IL '79), Falmouth, Maine, vice president; Walter E. Weirich (MSU '63), Tucson, Ariz., secretary-treasurer; James "Herb" Brown (AUB '77), Woodburn, Ky., recording secretary; and members-at-largeDrs. Richard E. Burrows (OSU '72), Kingman, Ariz., and Richard J. Forfa (PAR '80), Beallsville, Md.

The association was established in December 1998 with the goal to provide veterinary continuing education at fly fishing locations all over the world.
