Event: 118th annual convention, Jan. 29-31, St. Charles
Program: The convention, which offered 60 continuing education lectures, drew more than 500 attendees.
Awards: Veterinarian of the Year: Dr. Allen G. Robinson, Palmyra. A 1966 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, Dr. Robinson owns Palmyra Veterinary Clinic. He is a past president of the MVMA and a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Paint Horse Association, and Missouri Quarter Horse Association. Robert E. Hertzog Award: Dr. Ronald K. Cott, Columbia, for outstanding vision, leadership, and sacrifice for the betterment of the veterinary profession in Missouri and the United States. A 1973 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, Dr. Cott is associate dean for student and alumni affairs and director of development at the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Veterinary Medicine. He is a past president of the MVMA and served as Missouri's delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates from 2002-2008. President's Award: Kim C. Ralston, Jefferson City. Ralston has worked for the MVMA as a communications specialist for the past 10 years. Missouri Veterinary Medical Foundation Distinguished Service Award: Dr. Richard P. Schmidtke, Mexico, for his more than 10 years of voluntary service and his assistance in expanding the foundation's mission of public education and charitable giving. A 1965 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, Dr. Schmidtke owned Mexico Veterinary Hospital prior to retirement. He is a past president of the MVMA. Honorary Membership Award of the Missouri Academy of Veterinary Practice: Dr. Robert F. Kahrs, St. Augustine, Fla., won this award, given for distinguished or meritorious service to the veterinary profession. A 1954 graduate of Cornell University, Dr. Kahrs is former dean of the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Veterinary Medicine. He is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine.
