Pet first aid
The AVMA recently revamped "First aid tips for pet owners," one of its Web resources for the public. The Web site provides basic information about how to respond to a pet's medical emergency, while noting that first aid is not a substitute for immediate veterinary care.
The site includes a checklist of supplies for pet first aid, information about how to handle an injured pet, simple instructions for providing pet first aid, steps to prepare for travel with pets, and steps to plan for disasters. Links to other Web sites direct pet owners to additional details about first aid and a searchable list of emergency clinics from the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.
The AVMA Web site is at www.avma.org/firstaid.
