The Winn Feline Foundation is accepting grant applications for research into feline medical problems.

Foundation officials are encouraging researchers to apply if their studies relate to all cats or address problems in individual breeds. The foundation has dedicated some grant money toward research into mediastinal lymphoma, feline infectious peritonitis, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

The Winn Feline Foundation will typically provide grants of up to $15,000, but grant proposals involving specific cat breeds may qualify for more. Researchers may submit proposals for work that will take longer than one year, but the total budget must not exceed $15,000 unless it qualifies under the breed-specific exception.

Further funding may be given in multiyear projects, but researchers must reapply with new proposals and ask for continued funding. The money is not intended to cover principal investigators' salaries, major equipment expenses, travel costs, or indirect costs, according to information from the foundation.

Applications must be received by Dec. 8. Awards will be announced in March 2009.
