Michael-Lee began her new role at the AVMA in mid-June. She will function as chief financial officer and director of the Business Division, providing the vision, strategic planning, leadership, development, implementation, and ongoing management of the Association's financial policies, operations, and functions.

"I am excited and thrilled to be a part of this energetic organization," Michael-Lee said. "I am enthusiastic about joining the dynamic group of individuals who collectively represent (the AVMA's) more than 76,000-member constituent base and am looking forward to supporting the organization's visionary plans for growth, impact, advocacy, and reach."

Michael-Lee has more than 20 years of financial experience in nonprofit and for-profit arenas. Prior to joining the multiple sclerosis society staff, she was director of the Department of Finance at the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has also held the title of chief financial officer at Family Support America.

"We are thrilled to have Kim join our AVMA staff," said Dr. Ron DeHaven, executive vice president and chief executive officer. "She brings impressive technical qualifications to the Business Division director position. But just as important, she brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm with her."

Dr. DeHaven noted Michael-Lee's broad accounting and financial background with nonprofit organizations made her a key candidate. "Given the situation with today's financial markets, this experience will be critical to the AVMA in the short term as we seek to sustain our investment income," he said.

"I believe that we are living in uncertain economic times," Michael-Lee said. "However, within this volatility, there are opportunities within these challenges that we as an organization can leverage toward supporting our growth as well as broadening both our financial and operational foundations."

In addition to her other qualifications, Michael-Lee is a certified public accountant and has acted as a financial consultant to a variety of businesses for the past 17 years.
