The AVMA is now accepting nominations for an at-large vacancy on the Council on Veterinary Service. The position is one of three at-large council vacancies that the AVMA seeks to fill. There is a second vacancy on the Council on Veterinary Service and one on the Council on Communications. These two vacancies exist because no nominations were received by the April 1, 2008, deadline.
The individual who was nominated to fill the most recent vacancy withdrew after being hired by the AVMA PLIT. The position is a full six-year term on the Council on Veterinary Service and was originally slated as a private practice, exclusively equine vacancy. In accordance with the Manual of the House of Delegates, the position was temporarily reclassified as an at-large category. All voting members of the AVMA are now eligible to fill the vacancy.
All three vacancies are to be filled at the AVMA House of Delegates regular annual session in New Orleans, July 18-19.
Organizations wishing to nominate candidates for the at-large vacancies must submit a nomination form to the Office of the Executive Vice President no later than July 1. Visit the AVMA Web site, www.avma.org/about_avma/governance/volunteering, to obtain general information about all the councils, as well as for the at-large nomination form.
Inquiries can be e-mailed to OfficeEVP@avma.org or called into AVMA headquarters at (800) 248-2862, Ext. 6605.
