Program: The conference, held jointly by the Oregon VMA and Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine, had 840 attendees.
Awards: Veterinary Service Award: Dr. Matthew Maberry, Beaverton. A 1947 graduate of Washington State University, Dr. Maberry has owned Wildlife Enterprises, a mixed animal practice, since 1974. Earlier in his career, he served as veterinarian for public health services in the southeastern U.S., stationed in Atlanta; owned Tetra Chemical Corporation and Broadway Animal Clinic in Portland; and served as part-time veterinarian for what is now known as the Oregon Zoo. During his tenure at the zoo, Dr. Maberry helped establish an elephant breeding program and a continuing education program for teachers in the Portland area. Practice/Office Manager of the Year: Debee Brown, Eugene. Brown has served as practice manager for the West Eugene Animal Hospital for the past 15 years. She is active with local practice management groups and organizes continuing education for the veterinary staff. Technician/Staff Person of the Year: Kathy Charpilloz, Woodburn. During her 36-year career at the Woodburn Veterinary Clinic, Charpilloz has served as secretary, lead receptionist, veterinary assistant, and veterinary technician. President's Award: Marge Strother, Winchester. An employee of Lilly Companion Pet, Strother was honored for her long-time support of veterinary medicine and the OVMA. Her contributions include the establishment of a network for office managers in the region.
