Student externship stipend winners announced | American Veterinary Medical Association

The AVMA Member Services Committee has selected the recipients of the 2008 Student Externship Stipends. The program offers assistance to veterinary students seeking to broaden their education through experiences in public practice, corporate veterinary medicine, or food supply veterinary practice. In total, 15 $1,000 stipends were presented. Ten were given to students serving in public practice or corporate veterinary medicine settings. Those winners are Sara Andre (University of California-Davis), Melinda Cep (Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine), Danielle Davignon (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Jessica Enes (Louisiana State University), Alexandria Glover (University of Georgia), Laurie Harris (Purdue University), Melanie Landry (North Carolina State University), Annie Li (Cornell University), Lauren Markovic (University of Illinois), and Megin Nichols (Colorado State University). Five stipends for students participating in food supply veterinary medicine settings were added to the program beginning this year. The first recipients are Ashlee Brown (University of Georgia), Estella Hovland (University of Georgia), Maya Kuratomi (University of Minnesota), Brooke Ridinger (Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine), and Lacey Wright (North Carolina State University). Applicants secure their own externships. This year, they were selected to work in a variety of settings, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, and United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. The Member Services Committee will select the 2009 recipients at its spring 2009 meeting.
