Dr. H. Scott Hurd (ISU '82) became deputy undersecretary for food safety at the Department of Agriculture in mid-February. Most recently, he was an epidemiologist at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2007, he became a U.S. delegate to the Codex Alimentarius Intergovernmental Task Force on Antimicrobial Resistance. Previously, he worked for the USDA Agricultural Research Service and USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. |

Dr. Robert Playter (KSU '61) has received a 2008 Alumni Recognition Award from the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Playter retired in 1999 from Texas A&M University as a veterinary educator and administrator who specialized in ophthalmology. He spent a number of years as director of the veterinary teaching hospital at Cornell University. Previously, he operated a mixed animal practice in Hays, Kan. He served in the Army from 1955-1957. |
