As part of its ongoing efforts to improve the political outreach efforts of its Governmental Relations Division, the AVMA has hired Christine Marie Baker as AVMA Political Action Committee and grassroots manager.
Baker's responsibilities include oversight of the AVMAPAC, which helps the Association gain access to members of Congress, and grassroots efforts to help educate federal legislators and influence federal legislation from the local level. Baker will also oversee AVMAPAC fund-raising efforts. Over the next few election cycles, she plans to raise revenues over the million-dollar mark.
"I am thrilled to be part of the AVMA team and am very excited about the opportunity to dovetail my love for animals with my love for politics," Baker said. "The political arena has proved to be a fascinating field for me, and I have learned so much about the way Congress operates and why money matters. I want to engage every member in the political process in one form or another."
Her experience includes serving as assistant director of government affairs and a political affairs representative for the National Rural Letter Carriers' Association, as a fundraiser, and as an intern for U.S. Representative Dennis Moore of Kansas and two Kansas state representatives. Baker has a bachelor's degree in political science from Kansas State University.
"We are pleased that Christine is bringing her extensive PAC experience to the AVMA, and we look forward to building the PAC into a highly effective tool in the GRD's toolbox," said Dr. Mark Lutschaunig, GRD director.
