Beginning Jan. 1, 2008, participants in the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates program will pay a $100 re-registration fee instead of the usual $27.50.

The Executive Board approved the recommendation of the ECFVG, which noted that the re-registration fee had not increased since its establishment in 1994. The fee adjustment is expected to increase revenue by $24,000 in 2008 and $30,000 annually thereafter.

In addition, the board approved up to $95,000 to renew the lease on two suites at a Las Vegas property where the Western Veterinary Conference administers the Clinical Proficiency Examination for the ECFVG program.

The current three-year lease expires this October, and the ECFVG considers the CPE site important to the ongoing quality of the certification program. The WVC is building an educational center where the CPE will be offered, but construction on the center has been delayed and isn't expected to be completed for at least a year.

The board also approved changes to the document Quality Assurance for the CPE Site Proposal to increase the number of site consultants. The ECFVG recommended the revisions because it thought it necessary and appropriate to broaden the requirements to include CPE section coordinators or former or present ECFVG members.

All these individuals understand the CPE and are familiar with the requirements necessary to ensure a standardized examination experience, the ECFVG explained.

On a related note, the board approved the addition of a nonvoting liaison representing the CPE site coordinators on the ECFVG. The commission will appoint the representative to serve up to two three-year terms.
