Fee increases approved for 2008 convention

The Executive Board approved fee increases for attendee registration and exhibitors beginning with the 2008 AVMA Annual Convention in New Orleans.
The Convention Management and Program Committee continually reviews the annual convention registration fee schedule to ensure the financial viability of the convention. The increases approved by the board will offset escalating operating costs while also keeping attendee registration fees in line with other national veterinary meetings, the CMPC stated.
The following registration categories will increase by $50 in 2008: advance, member ($375), preconvention, member ($425), and onsite, member ($475). A $75 increase was approved for advance, nonmember ($600) and preconvention, nonmember ($650). A $100 increase was approved for onsite nonmember ($700). A $25 increase was approved for one-day, member ($225), and a $35 increase for one-day, nonmember ($350).
On the basis of preliminary attendance projections, the new fees are expected to bring in an additional $138,000 in revenue, the CMPC added.
Also approved were a revised set of exhibit booth rental fees, expected to grow revenue by $30,000. Along with these, the board approved a $50 increase for convention exhibiter representative registration fees to $300, for an estimated revenue increase of $3,000. A discount to exhibitors securing booth space more than five months in advance of convention was eliminated, for a savings of $15,000.
Board members approved amendments to the CMPC recommendations authorizing the committee to set the fees for convention registration and exhibitors. They also postponed until June acting on a recommendation to separate the time frame of the AVMA House of Delegates meeting from the annual convention in 2008. The board thought it best that the recommendation first be reviewed by the House Advisory Committee.
