Event: Annual meeting, Oct. 12-13, Chicago
Program: There were 80 attendees from the United States and Canada, including veterinary anesthesiologists, residents, and technicians. Dr. W.G. Van Bonn of the Shedd Aquarium presented the keynote address, "The curiosities of aquatic animal anesthesia."
Awards: Resident Research Award, sponsored by Surgivet: Drs. J.P. Figueiredo, The Ohio State University, for "Pharmacological effects of two doses of morphine in conscious horses"; M. Kilos, University of Minnesota, for "Comparison of two anesthetic protocols for feline blood donation—preliminary results"; and M. L. Rezende, University of California-Davis, for "Validation of transesophageal echo-Doppler for the measurement of aortic blood flow in anesthetized cats."

Veterinary Dental Forum

 

Drs. Lyon and CharlierEvent: 20th annual forum, Sept. 21-24, 2006, Portland, Ore.
Program: The forum, co-sponsored by the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry, the American Veterinary Dental College, and the American Veterinary Dental Society, offered 25 wet laboratories and more than 100 lectures on basic, intermediate, and advanced dentistry. There was a keynote address by Dr. Catherine Champagne on "Periodontal medicine: Systemic impact of periodontal disease."  

American Veterinary Dental College

Awards: AVDC Peter Emily Service Award, sponsored by Virbac Animal Health: Dr. Kenneth Lyon, Mesa, Ariz., for outstanding contributions made to further the field of veterinary dentistry. A diplomate of the AVDC and a fellow of the AVD, Dr. Lyon practices at Arizona Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery in Gilbert, Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center in Tucson, and Los Angeles. AVDC Outstanding Candidate Award, sponsored by Pfizer Animal Health: Dr. Jennifer Rawlinson, Ithaca, N.Y. A diplomate of the AVDC, Dr. Rawlinson is a lecturer in veterinary dentistry and coordinator of veterinary dental services at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.
