Awards: Ira M. Zaslow Distinguished Service Award: Dr. Douglass K. Macintire, Auburn, Ala. A 1980 graduate of Texas A&M University, Dr. Macintire is a professor at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. A diplomate of the ACVECC, she was honored for her extraordinary contributions through teaching, training, and leadership. Hill's Dr. Jack Mara ACVECC Achievement Award: Dr. Marjory Brooks, Ithaca, N.Y., for outstanding achievement in the areas of hemostasis and hypercoagulability in critically ill animals. A 1980 graduate of Cornell University, Dr. Brooks works at Cornell University's Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory. She is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. ACVECC Research Grant Award: Drs. Yekaterina Buriko and Cindy Otto of the University of Pennsylvania, for "Fresh frozen plasma administration in canine parvoviral enteritis: Effects on coagulation system and survival." Dr. Otto was also recognized for outstanding service and accomplishments while serving six years as editor of the Journal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. Resident's Abstract Award, sponsored jointly by VECCS, ACVECC, and Boehringer Ingelheim: A $500 stipend was awarded to Dr. Erica Reineke, University of Pennsylvania, for "The accuracy of a continuous glucose monitoring system in diabetic ketoacidotic dogs and cats." Equine Resident Award, sponsored by Mila International: A $500 stipend was awarded to Dr. Darien Feary, University of California-Davis, for "Traumatic brain injury in horses—diagnosis, management, and outcome in 34 cases (1994-2004)." Case Report Award, sponsored by Pfizer Animal Health: A $300 stipend was awarded to Dr. Gareth Buckley, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for "Salami, anyone?" Technician Case Report Award, sponsored by Pfizer Animal Health: A $300 stipend was awarded to Amy Breton, Tewksbury, Pa., for "Muscle ischemia and reperfusion injury."

Program: The ninth certification examination was conducted. The academy also held a pinning ceremony and reception for the class of 2005.
