AVMA accredits new veterinary technology programs

The AVMA Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities accredited six new veterinary technology programs in April, bringing the total number of AVMA-accredited veterinary technician programs to 125.

The newly accredited programs are offered at Mesa Community College and Penn Foster College in Arizona, Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College in North Carolina, Community College of Southern Nevada and Pima Medical Institute in Nevada, and Baker College of Jackson in Michigan.

The AVMA committee has 25 site visits scheduled in 2006 and 29 in 2007. Fifteen programs have applied for accreditation this year, including the six that were accredited in April, and eight have applied for accreditation next year.
