District I to elect board member

Dr. Guy L. Pidgeon has resigned from his role as District I representative on the AVMA Executive Board. The call for nominations to fill the position was mailed March 23 to all AVMA members in District I. Nominations from District I were received at AVMA headquarters in Schaumburg, Ill., by April 25. If there is more than one nominee, the AVMA will mail ballots to the district May 5. Ballots should be returned to the AVMA by June 5.

Dr. Pidgeon joined the AVMA Executive Board in 2004, representing Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. He recently accepted the position of assistant executive director at the Western Veterinary Conference in Las Vegas.

While based in New York, Dr. Pidgeon served as chief executive officer of the Animal Medical Center in New York City since 1997. The Bobst Hospital of the Animal Medical Center handles more than 50,000 pet patients a year with a staff of nearly 90 veterinarians.

Dr. Pidgeon is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and a 1975 graduate of Colorado State University. He taught at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine from 1978-1990. He has held several positions at Hill's Pet Nutrition, including associate director and director of veterinary affairs.

Dr. Pidgeon served as chair of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine board of regents from 2002-2003, president of the Specialty of Internal Medicine from 1991-1994, and president of the VMA of New York City in 1998. He is a member of the dean's advisory council at the University of California-Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. He serves on the board of advisers for Puppies Behind Bars, a program that trains prison inmates to foster puppies to become guide dogs for the blind.
