A donation from the AVMA PLIT and Hub International boosted the American Veterinary Medical Foundation's Animal Disaster Relief and Response Fund to almost $1.5 million.

"The PLIT and Hub International, the broker and administrator for the PLIT-sponsored professional liability and business insurance programs, have made a donation to the AVMF to help them in their efforts to aid veterinarians affected by recent hurricanes and other disasters," said Dr. Rodney G. Johnson, PLIT representative.

"The PLIT and Hub International salute the AVMF for their efforts and hope that these funds will help ease the hardship of those who have suffered losses."

Through Oct. 31, the AVMF disaster fund had received donations of $977,054. The AVMA allocated $500,000 in matching funds. With the donation from PLIT and Hub International, the total came to $1,497,054.

As of November, the AVMF had awarded $166,830 in grants from the fund. AVMA Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams received a $100,000 grant. The fund also provided $66,830 in grants to veterinarians who suffered losses from the recent hurricanes and grants to veterinarians who cared for animal disaster victims. Grant requests for another $75,400 were in committee at press time.
