As a result of Hurricane Katrina, the U.S. Postal Service will not deliver the Journal of the AVMA and the American Journal of Veterinary Research—and all other periodicals and standard mail—to certain areas of Louisiana and Mississippi until further notice. Beginning with the Sept. 15 issue of JAVMA and the October issue of AJVR, journals will not be delivered to areas with zip codes that start with 700, 701, or 704 in Louisiana, and 395 or 396 in Mississippi.

The USPS is currently formulating plans on how to handle mail already in the delivery process, which may include the Sept. 1 issue of JAVMA and September issue of AJVR.

JAVMA and AJVR subscribers who are affected by the hold can still receive their journals by providing the AVMA with a new mailing address outside the eight zip codes. Subscribers can update their mailing address by logging on to www.avma.org and clicking on "Update Your Membership Information." Subscribers can also call the AVMA at (800) 248-2862 and ask for the Membership Division.

The postal delay has no effect on access to the journals online at www.avma.org.
