The AVMA has allotted $3,000 to help fund the Food Supply Veterinary Medicine Education Workshop to be held Oct. 27-29 in Kansas City, Mo. The Executive Board approved the funding recommendation from the AVMA/Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges Joint Committee.

Hosted by the AAVMC, the workshop will focus on recently derived data identifying work force needs in population medicine, food supply veterinary medicine, and rural practice.

Research on supply, demand, and opportunities in food supply veterinary medicine will be discussed. New programs in veterinary colleges that highlight networks of excellence, best practices, summer institutes, and co-curricular DVM degree combined programs leading to degrees or certificates will also be discussed.

The workshop is expected to identify strategies for colleges to prepare food supply veterinarians for the future.
