The Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities recommended that its institutional accreditation standard be changed. The Executive Board approved the recommendation at its June meeting.
Found in the Policies and Procedures Manual of the CVTEA, the standard now reads:
1) Institutional Accreditation
An accredited veterinary technology program in the United States must be part of an institution of higher education accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
||Non-U.S. programs must be part of an institution of higher learning recognized by the appropriate national, provincial, or regional agency with that authority.|
In April, the CVTEA provisionally accredited the Ridgetown College, University of Guelph Veterinary Technology Program. As discussions between the CVTEA and the Canadian VMA continue, and as other foreign veterinary technology programs express interest in accreditation, the CVTEA believes the institutional standard needs to address non-U.S. veterinary technology programs.
