The AVMA is providing $6,000 for a veterinary student project to expand the use of the National Commission on Veterinary Economic Issues Web site among Illinois practitioners.
Executive Board Chair (2004-2005) Roger K. Mahr submitted the recommendation to fund the project, which is designed to encourage Illinois veterinarians to use the NCVEI's Web-based practice tools, thus improving the economic health of veterinary practices in the state.
The Illinois State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Illinois State VMA, and Veterinary Business Management Association are sponsoring the project.
The AVMA Executive Board has funded similar projects in Iowa and Michigan. This latest funding initiative, Dr. Mahr explained, provides veterinary students an opportunity to create an informal partnership among the NCVEI, VBMA, and veterinary college, which will increase usage of the NCVEI tools and eventually, improve veterinary practices in Illinois.
